Privacy Policy

These terms govern how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Sentinel app.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information:
- Email address (via Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In)
- First name (optional, for personalized greetings)
- Country of residence (optional)
- Display handle (username you choose)
- Subscription tier — your active subscription type (weekly, yearly, or grandfathered monthly). Used solely for service provisioning and analytics.
When you use Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email address. We respect Apple's private relay email system.
Report Data:
- Topics and queries you create reports on
- Interests you select during onboarding
- News outlet preferences
Usage Data:
- Which reports you view and how often
- Headlines you tap for analysis
- Features you interact with (deep dives, Ask Sentinel, etc.)
Device Information:
- APNs device token (for push notifications, if you grant permission)
- Device type and iOS version (for compatibility)
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the service: Creating intelligence reports, delivering headlines, personalizing your briefing
- To improve the app: Understanding which features are used to prioritize development
- To send notifications: Alerting you when your reports update or new intelligence is available
- To process subscriptions: Managing your Sentinel subscription via Apple StoreKit
- To enable social features: Displaying your handle to other users, enabling follows, comments, and messages
3. Third-Party Services
Sentinel uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase (supabase.com) — Authentication, database, and real-time sync. Your account data and reports are stored on Supabase infrastructure hosted on AWS.
- Google Gemini API (ai.google.dev) — AI analysis of news content. Your report topics are sent to Google's Gemini API for analysis. No personal information is included — only the news content and topic query.
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — Delivers push notifications to your device.
- Apple StoreKit — Processes subscription payments. We do not store your payment information — Apple handles all billing.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Supabase cloud infrastructure with the following protections:
- Row-Level Security (RLS) ensuring you can only access your own data
- Encrypted connections (TLS/SSL) for all data in transit
- Authentication tokens with automatic expiration and refresh
- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Your data is only shared with the third-party services listed above, solely to provide the Sentinel service.
If you make your reports public or share them on the Sentinel Network, other users can see your handle, report topics, and report content. You control your report visibility (public, friends-only, or private).
6. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account
- Reports: Retained until you delete them or delete your account
- Headline cache: Automatically deleted after 24 hours
- Analytics: Aggregated and anonymized after 90 days
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — all your reports and profile are visible in the app
- Delete your account — available in Settings. This permanently removes all your data from our servers, including reports, profile, network connections, and authentication records
- Export your data — share any report as an image or text
- Opt out of notifications — disable in iOS Settings or in-app
- Control visibility — set reports to private, friends-only, or public
When you delete your account, we also revoke your Sign in with Apple token if applicable, as required by Apple.
8. Children's Privacy
Sentinel is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
